"Ghost Tree"
The sculpture "Ghost Tree" reveals a fascinating symbiosis of form and material. A cylindrical geotextile, tapering towards the top, rises majestically from a base 1.5 meters in diameter and stretches up to an impressive height of 6 meters. The sinuous curve is created by sewn-in iron rings that give the work a harmonious structure.
Amidst an apparent circle of trees of different sizes, "Ghost Tree" appears like a guardian of nature. But the illusion is deceptive, because in reality the sculpture is attached in height to the center trees. The outer skin of the geotextile stretches under the structure's own weight, but reveals a fascinating semi-transparency through cut out leaf veins and patterns of ivy leaves and vines. This is reminiscent of the ornate lattice structure of a mashrabya, which both provides glimpses of the interior and directs one's gaze outward into the world.
The sculptural shape of the tapering cylinder lends the massive volume a remarkable lightness.
"Ghost Tree" is thus not only a physical presence, but also a dialogue between material and space. It invites to explore the play between transparency and solidity, while challenging the viewer's imagination.
